A plain-language explanation of what each garment care symbol means. Not a substitute for the official GINETEX / ISO 3758 icon set used on printed labels.
Machine wash
Safe for machine washing at the temperature shown inside the symbol (e.g. 30, 40, 60°C).
Hand wash only
Wash by hand only — no machine washing.
Do not wash
Garment cannot be washed in water at all.
Bleach allowed
Any bleach may be used, following instructions.
Non-chlorine bleach only
Only oxygen/non-chlorine bleach may be used.
Do not bleach
No bleach of any kind.
Tumble dry, normal
Safe to tumble dry on a normal heat setting.
Tumble dry, low heat
Tumble dry on a low-heat setting only.
Do not tumble dry
Air dry only — do not put in the tumble dryer.
Line dry
Hang to dry on a line, out of a dryer.
Dry flat
Lay flat to dry to preserve shape — common for knitwear.
Iron, high heat
Iron at a high temperature (up to ~200°C) — cotton, linen.
Iron, medium heat
Iron at a medium temperature (up to ~150°C) — polyester, wool.
Iron, low heat
Iron at a low temperature (up to ~110°C) — synthetics, silk.
Do not iron
Do not iron this garment at all.
Dry clean
Professional dry cleaning recommended or required.
Do not dry clean
Do not dry clean this garment.
